zoWISo: Language-weak students in mathematics lessons

There are more and more students in the classes who have been raised in multilingual or foreign languages. As a result, they sometimes cannot follow well in mathematics lessons.

The mathematics method zoWISo is unique because of the attention it gives to language-weak calculators.

In the zoWISo manual, attention is paid in each lesson to the specific calculation language on the one hand and the broader context language on the other. As a result, the teacher can pay attention in lesson preparation to the new vocabulary that will be discussed in this lesson. When the lesson starts, it is possible to check if all students understand and master the required vocabulary.

In the student materials the assignments are given on the basis of short instruction texts. In the workbooks use is made of the icons that also occur in Safe Learning to Read , the method for initial reading of Zwijsen.
